T O P I C R E V I E WJ BlackburnHas there been any information as to whether there will be an official crew version patch for each crewed mission of SpaceX's Dragon? I am sure SpaceX will have a mission patch but since most astronauts flying these missions are with NASA, will AB Emblem be producing an official patch? Robert PearlmanNeither NASA or SpaceX has commented specifically about crew patches, but SpaceX spokespeople during a 2018 media event said that there were no plans to add patches to the company's Crew Dragon pressure suit, other than the U.S. flag on the right shoulder.ddrwilliCrew patches are such a long-standing tradition among the astronaut corps that I would be very surprised indeed if the Crew Dragon or Starliner crews do not create their own patches.mode1charlieI have no idea what their policies might be other than what Robert already said, but I think they would be making a huge PR mistake not to allow mission patches on the crew suits. It's one of the things that really adds a human (and aesthetic) dimension to flights. It's an undeniably romantic element of spaceflight that should not be dismissed - at least until such time that launches really are so routine that nobody notices. We are a long way from that point.Marwin2I can't believe that the crews will not make their own patches. Our famous cS artists should offer their artwork suggestions to crews!Robert PearlmanWhether or not there are SpaceX-specific flight patches, the astronauts aboard Crew Dragon will still be represented by International Space Station expedition patches. With regards to SpaceX, the company has a history of designing emblems for each of its uncrewed flights, so it is perhaps reasonable to assume they will continue the tradition for Crew Dragon launches. The question becomes if the crew will wear the patch (or any patches) based on the company's earlier statements.Hart Sastrowardoyo quote:Originally posted by Robert Pearlman:...astronauts aboard Crew Dragon will still be represented by International Space Station expedition patches.Would that include DM-2 or no, because that's considered a taxi flight and not an increment stay?Robert PearlmanNo, that does not include Demo-2 as the crew aboard that flight will not become part of an ISS expedition.Nyberg1283Yes, there will be crew patches. Whether or not they will be used on the flight suits is questionable. But each crew will design up a mission patch for each of their missions.
